“A human being is a part of a whole, called by us ‘universe,’ a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest… a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.” ~Albert Einstein

Sometimes, events outside of us—like the earthquake, tsunami and resulting twin nuclear disasters in Japan—free us from that prison and widen our circle of compassion. How will you show your compassion today?

I wish that I could get on a plane bound for Japan and help friends and distant relatives. But what would I do when I got there? It’s frustrating and heartbreaking. So I will do what I can from here: Make donations to organizations already on the ground there. Pray. And make my little corner of the world a better place; ease a burden, express my love, lend a hand.

I am grateful to be here and that you are a part of my life.

Please share your thoughts, insights and questions below. Your participation provides wisdom that all can benefit from. Thank you!
